[30 Day Challenge] Day 1 - 10 Things About Your Lolita Bubble

Hello lovelies! Today is my first day of the 30 Day Lolita Challenge! I think it will be a great opportunity for you to get to know me (and keep me posting on a regular basis). The first day is 10 things about your lolita bubble. Let's get started!

1. I have a really bad habit of  impulse buying and lolita is no exception! I often buy items that I want rather than the ones I need. I've needed bloomers and a new petticoat for the longest time but my last few purchases have all been accessories or new tights. I'm also crazy about prints. I only have three items in my wardrobe (not including blouses) that are print free. I always tell myself I am going to buy a print free dress, but then Angelic Pretty releases a new print and I lose my resolve.

2. My lolita style is prodominately sweet but I do have a soft spot for gothic. When I first discovered lolita I was going through my high school goth phase. I tried really hard to like the edgier pieces I saw in Gothic & Lolita Bible, but I couldn't help but be drawn to the sometimes painfully sweet of Angelic Pretty and Baby, the Stars Shine Bright. I've experimented a few times by combining the two to create a creepy cute or pastel goth look.

3. If I am wearing lolita I never leave the house without false eyelashes or a wig. My hair is very fine and no matter how long it grows or how much I tease it it will never give me the effect I want. I do have a little bit of a wig exception, ha ha! My eyelashes are long enough on their own, but I feel like having fuller looking eyelashes really adds to the sweet look.

4. Some of my favorite prints that I absolutely die over are chocolate, carousel horses, florals, and architecture.

5. I'm not a hardcore lifestyle lolita. It is definitely an aspiration of mine to be able to wear my frills everyday, but for the mean time I think of myself as a pseudo-lifestyle lolita because I wear it whenever possible.

6. I've recently been more intersted in indie lolita brands, specifically Chess Story, Classical Puppet, and Infanta. They're some of the heavy hitters from Taobao and offer a variety of lolita styles and sizes.

7. One of the main reasons I maintain my weight is to fit into brand.

8. I definitely believe in quality over quantity, not just in my lolita wardrobe but with my cosplay and everyday fashion. I feel more satisfied saving for months to buy quality items and having a smaller collection, than having many low quality dresses.

9. Even though I'm not primarily a gothic lolita, Mana is still my lolita fashion idol.

10. My wardrobe has a lot of pastels. I've branched out from my usual pinks and reds, to yellows and mints. I want to add more navy and other blues to my wardrobe.

Whew! That was a lot of work! It was surprisingly tough to think of ten things that define me as a lolita! I hope you enjoyed this first day of the challenge.

[Lolita Blog Carnival] What Are You Thankful For In Lolita?

I am very excited that this is the topic for my first Lolita Blog Carnival post! Lolita is very near and dear to my heart, and has become such a huge part of my life.

I've never been a cookie cutter girl when it came to fashion. I grew up with hand-me-downs and thrift store treasures, so I have always dressed creatively. Even at a young age I thought that fashion was one of the best ways of self expression. I was heavily bullied in elementary school, and how I dressed was one of the fuels of the fire. Once I entered middle school I begged my parents to buy me clothes that everyone else was wearing so I could fit in. They complied, but I was never happy in what I wore. I felt like what I was wearing wasn't reflecting my personality, almost like I was pretending to be someone else. It was my freshman year of high school when I discovered lolita from a Gothic &Lolita Bible a friend owned. I thought the clothes were adorable, but it wasn't until I saw Mana's photo set that I fell in love. Much like Momoko from "Kamikaze Girls" I felt like Mana drew a pistol from inside his coat and fired, destroying the person I had created to fit in with everyone else. I am very thankful to the lolita fashion that I am able to be myself. Lolita is such a versatile fashion that it allows so much room for self expression. Though I am primarily a sweet lolita, I have dabbled with pastel goth, and gothic lolita.

Despite my bubbly personality I am actually an introvert. Lolita is an usual fashion and wearing it in public puts you in the spotlight. Being a lolita has taught me to be more sociable, and gave me confidence to talk with people I don't know. I've met some of my best friends through the lolita community. I am so thankful to the lolita fashion for that.

Lolita fashion has been such a huge inspiration in my life. It has inspired me to pursue my degree in fashion design, it has encouraged me to branch out of my comfort zone to make new friends and talk with curious passer by, but most of all lolita has reminded me to always be true to myself.

[Fashion] Merry Making in the Ghost Town JSK II

For my birthday this year I traveled 678 miles to Fog City a.k.a San Francisco. I told everyone that besides this trip being a much needed vacation I was going to touring AAU (I'll post about this later), which I indeed do, but the true reason was to scratch off visiting BTSSB and Angelic Pretty San Francisco from my lolita bucket list.

The boutiques were adorable and bright and was almost like walking into a small part of heaven. Believe me when I say I touched all the things (there was literally no garment that escaped my fingers). I was pleased to see that Alice and The Pirates was still taking reservations on their coveted Merry Making in the Ghost Town series, and I was even more pleased that all of the items I wanted were still available! All of the pieces arrived this week and I'm sharing a closer look with you.

The material used is called banian which is a thin cotton material that has a slight crepe texture to it. The skirt is the only part of the garment that is fully lined.

Back.

The back is partially shirred with a corset style lace up. There is also elastic in the back waist of the dress, and it has detachable ribbons.

The print is a unique skyline of creepy Victorian mansions accompanied by rustic looking grave stones. There is gold flossing used throughout the print, mainly in the sparkles and the windows of the mansions.

The ribbons and gold chain on the front of the dress are removable, allowing more versatility and coordinate options.

OTKs

The head bow is asymmetrical and sits adorably on the side of the head. The bow has a thin wire in it to help hold it's shape. The ribbon is lined with velvet and matching lace to the dress. The detachable ribbons are made from a sturdy material. The chains are made from two different sized links, and the pendant is inlaid with rhinestones. The OTKs are made from a soft cotton, and gold flossing is used in the details.

This dress is beautiful! It fully captures the spirit of my favorite holiday, and I am so glad to add this creepy cute print to my collection.
